Art. What is it? Is what I do art?
It's a debate I've had many, many times in many, many ways. How do you define art?
I don't know...I like to think of myself as an artist. I like to approach my work from an artistic point of view, but I make money from my work. Does that make it not art? It seems like in a lot of people's eyes it does. But I don't understand why, it's still art.
If a painter paints a painting and sells it, does it make it not art anymore? No,obviously not. So if I shoot an image that's a commercial image or is for commercial use, does that no longer make it art? You'd be surprised how often I get told that what I do is not art. But I feel like it is, I try. I want it to be art.
I put my emotions, my soul, my whatever the right word is, into it. Try to make it be something more than just a photograph. I think that's what it takes. I think that's what defines art for me; putting more into it than just a mechanical process.
I'd love to get everyones opinion.. why can't a commercial image be "ART"?
